News:
Story: In South Carolina a man with a shotgun that forcefully entered a church was stopped and held at gun point by members of the congregation, including one with a Concealed Weapons Permit.  No one, including the suspect, was injured.

Story: Sheriff’s Deputies in Gaines County Texas (Where we live, work, and podcast from) are investigating a double homicide on the western edge of the county, not far from the Mexico State line.  Both victims were shot multiple times, and were deceased when deputies arrived at the scene.

Story: The Obama Administration is threatening to veto H.R. 5326 (FY2013 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill) over provisions in the bill such as the amendment to prevent new unauthorized multiple sales requirements.

Story: A Blind man in New Jersey will get his firearm collection back thanks to his attorney and the court system.  The efforts to strip him of his gun rights were dependent, in part, on false testimony from an ex-tenant who burglarized his home.

Story: In Big Spring Texas a fight ended with gunfire and the shooter’s death by being run over with a vehicle.  Reports are that no one was shot, but the vehicle that hit the shooter was hit by gunfire.

Story: So CBS goes to a gun show to show illegal activities and the only law breaking they documented was their own.  They video taped in spite of signs saying no cameras at the show and they recorded audio with California being a two party consent state.

Story: In Houston Texas a suspect attempted to rob three men when he learned the hard way that not everyone is an easy victim when his three victims turned out to be armed undercover police officers who resisted.  That resistance resulted in the suspect being shot and killed.

Story: According to reports at least 200 murders in Mexico have been tied to firearms that were part of the Fast and Furious Scandal.  One of those murders appears to have been the brother of a former Mexican state Attorney General.

Editorial: Our editorial comes is about New Mexico playing games with reciprocity.  The link goes to a thread on the TexasCHLforum.com website.

Story: New Mexico has dropped reciprocity with Florida and Virginia in regards to concealed carry licenses.  The main issue appears to be that their licensing requirements are not considered to be substantially similar to those of New Mexico.

Story: Gun rights have been on the march lately in the court system.  A federal judge has ruled that Maryland’s law that requires Concealed Carry applicants show good cause is unconstitutional.  Maryland has indicated they intend to appeal the ruling.

Story: The ATF Managers have retained lawyers, Blame Gun laws, and still deny that any gun walking took place.  In essence, nothing has changed in regards to the administration.

Story: A Video of Eric Holder has surfaced where he says that we need to “Brainwash” people about guns.  In all honesty Its stuff like this that destroys any credibility he has left when it comes to gun issues.  Hat tip to Mike at the Everyday No Days Off blog.

Story: The investigation into Fast and Furious has grown once again while a leak inside the Department of Justice is providing investigators documents on the matter.  The investigation is currently focused on the actions of both the ATF and FBI.

Story: The Wichita Kansas city council voted to expand where concealed carry is legal in government owned buildings by a 4 to 3 vote.  This measure adds one hundred eleven locations to the legal list.  At one time all three hundred ninety two city owned facilities were on the prohibited list.

Story: CBS News has an article about the fact that more and more women are becoming gun owners.  The article has a video and is worth watching.

Story: Having read at least some of the works of George Santayana the Second Amendment foundation and Calguns foundation took the line “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” to heart and listened to Reverend King who said “A right delayed is a right denied” and have launched a lawsuit against the state of California over its mandatory waiting periods.

Story: As everyone has heard an eighth grade Brownsville Texas student was shot and killed by police as he waived what appeared to be a firearm around.  As it was later revealed the apparent firearm was a CO2 powered pellet gun.

Story: Crossbreed Holsters has signed on as a founding sponsor of SHWAT which stands for Special Hog Weapons And Tactics.  SHWAT appears to be a brand for marketing products geared toward “Tactical” Hog Hunting.

Story: The second half of the NRA court case, that intends to allow 18 to 21 year olds to buy firearms from dealers and make them eligible for a CHL, has been dismissed.  The first portion had been dismissed because 21 year olds can buy firearms in private sales, and the second portion deals with Texas Concealed Handgun License eligibility was dismissed because the judge says “the Court is of the opinion that the Second Amendment does not confer a right that extends beyond the home”

Fast and Felonious news
Story: We’re filing this one under Fast and Felonious because the administration shows the same respect for the law in this story as they did in Fast & Furious.  In a signing statement for the omnibus bill, that he signed into law, President Obama claims that the provisions prohibiting gun control efforts do not apply.

Story: The NRA-ILA has a piece on Ammoland, with video, about how the purpose of Fast & Furious was to erode the Second Amendment by manufacturing evidence to support additional gun control.

Story: According to the NRA-ILA Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has made it clear that Fast & Furious will be an election issue in the presidential campaign.

Story: Are you outraged that firearms were illegally transferred to criminals to be used in crimes in Mexico and The United States?  If so then United States Attorney General Eric Holder claims that you are a racist.

Story: The Arizona United States Attorney who participated in Fast & Furious has made it clear that while he will appear before congress like he was subpoenaed to do, he will not cooperate and will plead the fifth in order to not incriminate himself.

Seriously??? News
Story: An off duty Dallas PD officer had her sidearm taken from her by a suspect armed with a knife after she used her gun against him.  The officer suffered minor injuries and it is unclear if the suspect was injured in any way.  A man matching the suspects description was taken into custody.

Because we were rushed to record this episode we didn’t have a quote or featured firearm for you.

News:
Story: Have you ever wondered what the deadliest sniper in the world prefers?  With 255 confirmed kills to his credit retired Navy SEAL Chief Chris Kyle is considered by many to be that man.  This article is about his autobiography and lists his top five rifle picks.

Story: When you Open Carry, please for your own sake use a holster with some form of active retention.  To explain why we point to an incident in Richmond Virginia where a man was shot and killed after his weapon was snatched from its holster.  The victim was licensed to carry a concealed handgun, but was open carrying at the time in what I suspect was his normal concealed carry holster.

Story: One suspect had his worst nightmare come true while he was committing the crime of home invasion.  The home owner took a a firearm and shot at the suspect hitting him in the hip, which the bullet passed through and then proceeded to hit the suspect in a location that we won’t mention.  When police arrived and asked the suspect what happened he replied with “Figure it out yourself.”

Story: An Indiana couple came home to find a burglar in their home who lost control of a shotgun after a struggle.  As the suspect was fleeing the scene he drew a handgun and the homeowner then shot the armed suspect in the legs with the shotgun.  After reaching the getaway vehicle the suspect and his accomplice tried to flee but the homeowner proceeded to shoot out a tire on the truck.  Both suspects are in custody.

Story: People in Wisconsin will soon have castle doctrine thanks to their governor signing Assembly Bill 69 into law.

Story: A handgun was discharged by a TSA agent after it was discovered in the carry on baggage of a passenger in Atlanta.  The article says Firearms are not allowed in carry on bags, however we would like to let you know that they can be transported in checked luggage if you follow the correct procedures.

Audio: A gun store in California called PRK Arms has a radio add where they ask you to buy guns like animal shelters ask you to adopt a puppy.  Its a funny advertisement that is causing some controversy and we are linking to it in our show notes.

Fast and Felonious News:
Story: If you haven’t seen the cartoon series half-cocked then you really need to.

Story: Fox News has a story about a memo that shows how the Justice Department was concerned early in the Fast & Furious scandal while they were denouncing thre whistleblower who let the world know about the issue.

Story: As Things continue to unravel regarding the Fast and Furious Scandal it seems there are more contradictory documents and statements by the minute.  Lanny Breuer, one of Eric Holders key deputies, appears to be the potential fall guy for the operation as he claims he never saw a document in which the “Friday Document Dump” shows he forwarded versions of the document to his personal email account at least 3 times.

Story: “No body in the Justice Department has lied…” claims Attorney General Eric Holder because they did not intentionally give false information to congress.  Next we will hear that no one has lied because everything they have said is the truth in “Imagination Land…”

Story: Representative Issa was on the Sean Hannity show about Eric Holders testimony before congress where Holder was caught in several lies.  Eric Holder also resisted being sworn in for his testimony before congress.

Followup: The Texas Railroad Commission has revised its policy and will allow its employees with a concealed handgun license to carry a concealed handgun while working.  The NRA article says the new policy allows employees and visitors to carry, although state law for the most part allows concealed carry on state and local government property.

Story: A man shot himself in the hip and bled to death in the parking lot of a grocery store when he was unfastening his seat belt.  It is unclear if he was carrying his Glock handgun in a holster or if he was licensed to carry a handgun.  According to the article the probability is that he was carrying his firearm in his pocket and not in a holster.

Story: While not specifically a news story about guns, you really need to watch the video in this article to see how an officer takes down a man accused of domestic violence.  To make it gun related officers had their weapons drawn when they approach and pick the suspect up off the ground.

Story: This story takes you to a forum thread on AR15.com where a user posted about using a factory barrel that deformed brass and then it blew up in his face, or actually his hand.  The gun in question was a 10mm Glock that he bought new in 1994 and he was using the original barrel in it.

Story: New Mexico and West Virginia now have a reciprocity agreement between the two states that will go into effect on December, 1st 2011.  This means that people licensed to carry a concealed handgun in one state can legally do so in the other.

Story: The United States House of Representatives passed the national reciprocity bill and defeated all amendments.  The bill has now gone to the Senate who will send it the president, should they pass it in its current form.

Story: A Florida Law Enforcement Officer attempted to kill his Ex-Girlfriend, also a police officer, when he emptied his .40 caliber Glock into her patrol car.  She survived with at least one round hitting her vest.  Her attacker begged officers for one more round of ammunition so he could kill himself.

Story: A Houston man shot and injured a suspect who was holding a gun to his daughters head.  A second suspect fled the scene while a third suspect, the daughter’s mother, was arrested when she arrived at the scene.

Story: The 2012 Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science, and Transportation/Housing/Urban development appropriation bills were passed by congress and signed into law with twelve important protections for gun owners.  The protections include things such as anti-registration protections, anti-gun-walking protections, Curio & Relic protections, Shotgun importation protections, and others.

Story: The Iraqi government plans to implement gun control and take away firearms that families own to protect themselves.  Like all gun control measures its being pushed to prevent violence but the people who are committing the acts of violence will not be affected by the legislation.

Fast and Felonious News
Story: This story is about how a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer was convinced that he was helping take down a cartel when in fact he was being used by the BATFE to sell guns that the ATF wanted smuggled across the border for other purposes.

Seriously ??? News
Story: An article over at the firearm blog alerted me to this one.  Gigabyte has a PC motherboard styled to look like it uses components from firearms.  While an interesting design some components appear to be AR related, others appear to be AK related, and so on.  The amusing thing is the disclaimer at the bottom of the “magazine” heat sink.

Story: A New York woman was sentenced to five years in jail for using her husbands handgun to defend herself from him.  Her husband was a former New York City Police Sergeant and apparently had a history of violence.  This is why gun control must be abolished because it only serves to help further victimize those who have already been abused.

News:
Followup: Texas officials have closed their investigation into the anti-liberal and anti-Muslim radio advertisement by Crockett Keller.  They concluded that he has done nothing that would violate the requirements for an instructors certificate and that Mr. Keller has affirmed that he would not close his class to anyone based on national origin, race, or religion.

Followup: The Canton Ohio man who had been threatened by a Canton Ohio police officer has gone to court and pled guilty to being stopped in the road.  All other charges have been dismissed by the judge under criminal rule 29 which means that the prosecution did not make a sufficient case to prove reasonable doubt.

Story: The Memphis Tennessee Police Department is missing a small quantity of ammunition and they are investigating its disappearance.  If you happen to be in the general area and happen to find two hundred thousand rounds of ammo the Memphis PD would like to know about it.

Story: In single week in Wisconsin more than 20,000 applications for the concealed carry license were turned in.  Of those 879 licenses were already approved and 793 had been printed.  In addition to that 117 applications had been rejected for various reasons such as incomplete applications, missing information, missing payment, along with others.

Story: Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman has been working with Jerry Patterson to develop a policy for the Railroad Commission that would allow employees with a Texas Concealed Handgun License to carry a handgun while at work in order to defend themselves against wild animals or criminal elements.

Story: Fifteen current or former members of Mayor Bloomberg’s Mayors against Illegal Guns organisation, which bills itself as wanting to prevent crime, are criminals.  I’m going to chalk this one up to them wanting a safe working environment.

Story: A British Spitfire that had crashed over 70 years ago was found with parts of it being recovered Including six of the machine guns as well as ammunition.  Parts from six of those Browning Machine Guns chambered in .303 were used to assemble a working gun that was fired using modern ammunition.

Story: In a Story that shows the bias the media demonstrates its lack of knowledge about the subject of firearms by referring to a suspect using a military-handgun.  The suspects have not been captured so there is no proof the handgun used was military property so we must assume the Militiary-style-guns comments mean a military style handgun in which case we must point out that all guns are for the most part military style.

Fast and Felonious News:
Story: Eric Holder testified before congress about the Fast and Furious scandal.  As expected he reaffirmed his previous statements about when he knew, that more gun control would have prevented it, and he thumbed his nose at Agent Terry’s family.

Story: At least one source in the media has now stated that the Fast and Furious scandal is not a botched operation, except where the whole getting caught thing happened.  This is important because the message that this was a political operation to generate support for gun control is starting to get out.

Story: The justice department (read Eric Holder) is refusing to provide 11 witnesses that were requested by Representative Darrell Issa and Senator Grassley.  While the article quotes Senator Grassley as saying they requested the witnesses we must assume that they were simply requested, but not subpoenaed as a result of the DOJ promising to work with the congressional investigation.

Seriously ??? news:
Media (audio podcast): On Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Mr. Tom Taylor announced that Mossberg would be launching a Zombie Version of some of its products including their shotgun and a tactical version of their model 464 lever action rifle.

Story: Not wanting to be left out of the Zombie marketing madness Taurus has let slip that at least a prototype version of the popular Judge pistol called the Zombie Responder exists.  This particularly ugly variant is based on the Raging Judge with a three inch chamber, six inch barrel, and accepts .454 Casull as well as the popular .410 shotshell and .45 Colt cartridges.

Story: Mayor Bloomberg of New York City along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns couldn’t resist joining the Zombie craze themselves.  Their angle is to get a zombie to sign his name to at least two advertisements, three letters to congress, and one letter to the president.  The Zombie in question is Freeland Borough, PA’s Mayor Tim Martin who died in September of 2010.  But don’t worry MAIG has an excuse.

Our quote for this episode is in honor of Halloween and comes to us from a publication by Jeff Cooper in 1993: “Not long ago it was easy to tell who the bad guys were. They carried Kalashnikovs. Now it is much more complicated, but one thing is sure – any man who covers his face and packs a gun is a legitimate target for any decent citizen.”

This episodes quote led us into a brief discussion about a news story where a 10 year old boy pulled a gun on a woman who was joking about stealing his candy.

News:
Followup: A Lubbock County Grand Jury has decided not to indict the elderly gentleman who shot at Lubbock police officers who were confused about which residence they were responding to.

Followup: The armed citizen who was arrested in the Canton Ohio incident where the arresting officer made death threats will be going to trial starting on November 9th.  All motions to dismiss the charges and to suppress evidence were denied.  Ohioans for concealed carry is asking for anyone to attend the hearing if they can do so.

Story: John emailed us a link to a story from Houston where a 70 year old man lost a finger while deflecting a gun aimed at him by an armed robber.  The good news is that while he may have lost a finger at least he didn’t loose his life.

Story: A Clerk at a store in Florida fatally shot a would be kidnapper and robbery suspect when he attempted to take her one year old baby with him.  The suspect was taken to the hospital where he died from the injuries inflicted by the a mother.

Story: In Florida a Columbia County woman was cut several times before she was able to fight her way to her gun and shoot at her attacker forcing him to flee.

Story: In contrast to the previous story a Pregnant New York mother was killed after shielding children from gunfire with her body.  The criminals will always find a way to be armed, the only options the public has is the ability to effectively fight back or die.

Story: A District of Columbia Law Enforcement Officer has been sentenced to four years in jail for making treats with a handgun while under the influence of alcohol.  In the incident he grabbed the female friend around the neck and put a gun under her chin.  The phrase “Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish” Applies here.

Story: Two hunters in Montana were attacked by a grizzly bear with her cubs.  While calling a bull elk they got the attention of a Sow grizzly who was hunting.  She charged at the hunters when they attempted to scare her off by letting her know they were human.  One of the hunters was armed with a .357 Magnum revolver and was able to stop her with five shots, three of which were misses.  The other hunter had a .44 magnum back at camp, but was not carrying it because of issues with the trigger.

Story: Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark New Jersey has said that more than 80% of the people shot in his city are “Known to the Criminal Justice System.”  It seems that criminals tend to attack people that they know and they tend to know other criminals.

Story: In Mason Texas a Texas Concealed Handgun License instructor has caused quite a controversy with a radio advertisement that says “If you are a socialist liberal and/or voted for the current campaigner in chief, please do not take this class. You have already proven that you cannot make a knowledgeable and prudent decision under the law.”  Which is later followed with “If you are a non-Christian Arab or Muslim, I will not teach you the class with no shame; I am Crockett Keller, thank you, and God bless America.”  The State of Texas is investigating the subject to determine if his instructors certificate should be revoked or not.

Story: New York City Mayor Bloomberg now has his own scandal to deal with where five current NYPD officers, three retired NYPD officers, a New Jersey corrections officer, and at least three other other parties were involved in smuggling weapons.  The weapons include M16s, Handguns, and shotguns with most weapons serial numbers having been defaced.

Fast and Felonious News:
Story: It would seem that the Fast & Furious scandal just keeps getting bigger and bigger.  The most recent revelation is that BATFE officials allowed a man to smuggle parts for grenades into Mexico when he could have been charged on at least occasion.

Story: It seems that Attorney General Eric Holder believes that the BATFE would not have attempted Fast & Furious if there had only been more laws to break.  So lets see if we understand this, the DOJ and criminals, or is that Criminals in the DOJ, don’t obey the law so more laws would have stopped it?

Story: The FBI is now being investigated by the House oversight committee for its role in the gun running scandal.  Meanwhile party politics are rearing their ugly head as some representatives claim the investigation is a politically motivated effort.

Story: Attorney General Eric Holder has agreed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.  He had been requested to appear before the committee by its members and Representative Darrell Issa who is the head of the House oversight committee.  The attorney General has not been subpoenaed so his appearance is not forced.

Story: The NRA has launched an ad calling on President Obama to fire Attorney General Eric Holder for his apparent perjury relating to his involvement in the Fast and Furious scandal.

Seriously??? news:
Story: Hornady has Announced their new “Zombie Max” ammo for a wide range of calibers.  It is currently available in at least three calibers for both rifles and handguns with a disclaimer to the effect that it is not a toy and should only be used on zombies, not people or anything else.

Story: Ruger is apparently teaming up with at least one distributor, Davidsons, to produce a “Zombie Slayer” LCP.  First zombie ammo, and now a zombie pistol.  Has the word zombie replaced “Tactical” as the new market keyword?

Story: Two men committed armed robbery in order to steal a sandwich from a thirteen year old boy.  After reporting the robbery to the police the suspects vehicle was located with the police recovering the sandwich.

So in this episode we talk about Coyote Hunting along with a touch of bobcat hunting on the side.  Then we talk about some handguns chambered in .45 ACP.  After that we kinda walk our way into talking about reloading.

Story: The media has a unique capability, that capability is to shape the minds of the public for good or bad.  This power has been understood  since the media came to be which is why the Freedom of the Press is enshrined in the First Amendment of the Constitution.  So why would the media completely ignore good news that violent crime rates have fallen in Chicago and the District of Columbia since they both lost historic cases before the Supreme Court?  John Lott addresses that in an article available on Fox News.

Story: Hawaii Concealed Carry has an article on Ammoland.com  that debunks some key “facts” used by gun control proponents to attack legal concealed carry.  Using the Violence Policy Center’s own numbers, and adding in some suicides in order to use them to represent a year, Hawaii Concealed Carry shows that Concealed Carry holders murder fewer people in a year than Tuberculosis or Influenza.

Story: Litigation efforts are meeting resistance in the District of Columbia where a appellate court panel ruled that the Districts ban on semi-auto firearms and magazines with a capacity over 10 rounds is constitutional.

Story: A sixteen year old suspect is dead and three suspected accomplices were treated for life threatening injuries after an off duty Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputy was forced to shoot them while they were committing an armed robbery.

Story: In Dallas Texas eight people were shot when gang violence broke at at a Rap Contest.  A Twenty Two year old man was about to go on stage when an argument broke out and he was shot multiple times before his attacker begun to fire into the crowd.

Story: California lawmakers sent a bill to California Governor Jerry Brown to outlaw Open Carry in California.  We should expect to see a lawsuit over legal carry in California with their Concealed Carry permits being issued on a “May Issue” basis.

Story: Two armed robbery suspects in Houston Texas attempted to rob a convenience store.  One suspect shot at a clerk, hitting him in the leg, while the other suspect jumped the counter.  What happened next was another clerk, who was armed, shot back hitting one suspect twice.  The injured suspect was captured near by.

Story: A Seminole Florida man shot himself in the head while trying to prove to his girlfriend that his gun was safe.  He placed the gun to his head and pulled the trigger and the gun did not fire.  He repeated the action a second time and the weapon discharged.

Fast And Felonious news:
Story: CBS News has uncovered documents which show that United States Attorney General Eric Holder was aware of Fast and Furious as far back as July of 2010 which contradicts his statements to Congress.  Department of Justice officials now claim that Mr. Holder misunderstood the questions presented to him.

Story: The usual Obama Administration excuse when facing failure has finally been used to cover for Fast & Furious, it was “Bush’s Fault.”  It Seems that a similar scheme, called operation wide receiver, is alleged to have been run by the BATFE from some time in 2006 and ended in 2007.  If these allegations are true then the Bush Era officials responsible for this operation need to be investigated and punished as well.

Story: Republicans in the United States House of Representatives have called for a Special Prosecutor to be appointed in the Fast and Furious scandal due to Eric Holder’s apparent perjury before congressional investigators.

Story: The previously mentioned article about Eric Holder being aware of Fast and Furious earlier is supported by documents showing he was briefed at least five times on or between July 5th through August 9th of 2010.  The briefings each contain the phrase “Fast and Furious” and a description of how the operation was conducted.

Story: Firearms that were purchased under the ATF’s failed Fast and Furious program were found in the home of an alleged cartel enforcer.  The firearms appear to have been shipped to El Paso from Phoenix where they were transported across the boarder into Juarez.

Story: The ATF knew there were problems with guns sales that were part of the Fast and Furious  program, however they continued to push the sales of the guns that were intended to be sent to cartels in Mexico.

Story: Representative Issa, who has so far led the push to investigate Fast and Furious in the United States House of Representatives, announced on Fox News that new subpoenas were to be issued to parties in the administration.

Story: Eric Holder has received another subpoena from the house of representatives regarding the Fast and Furious scandal.  The key facts are that they are requesting documents, records, recordings, ect. in unredacted form.  This subpoena does not order people to appear before the committee.

Story: Did the BATFE have a party to celebrate the new Long Gun Multiple Sales rule being implemented?  According to the guys over at cleanupATF.org they sure did, and it was an official event.

Story: The states of Nevada and Washington have been added to list of states who’s carry permits are considered an exemption from the NICS check.

Story: A Manchester New Hampshire resident was able to stop the burglary of a Firefighters Association hall that was across the street from his house by doing nothing more than walking outside with a shotgun and asking the suspect to sit down until police arrived.

Story: In southern New Mexico federal agents raided a gun store and arrested it’s owners, his wife, and their two sons.  They are accused of selling firearms that they knew would be smuggled into Mexico.  A question I am certain their attorney will be asking is “Do these charges stem from sales that were part of Fast & Furious?”

Story: The Justice Department has been moving people around with reassignments.  Kenneth Melson has been removed from his post as head of the BATFE, the chief federal prosecutor in Arizona has resigned and left government service all together.  The new acting head of the ATF is the current U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota, Byron Todd Jones.  It is interesting to note that he will also continue to serve in his current position in addition to serving as the acting head of the ATF.

Story: The Texas DPS is creating a Marine division in an effort to combat drug smugglers.  The new division will be using “Black and White tactical boats” which will be “heavely armed” in an effort to protect Texas.

Story: In New Braunfels Texas a convenience store clerk was shot in the chest after complying with the demands of his attackers.  The clerk is expected to recover according to a supervisor at the store.  The two suspects completely concealed their identities with gloves, hoodies, and handkerchiefs, however a reward is being offered for  information leading to their arrest.

Story: The Fast and Furious scandal continues to grow and get uglier by the day.  It now appears that a third firearm, also linked to the Fast and Furious scandal, was recovered at the murder scene of Agent Terry.

Story: The Humane Society of the United States is pushing a “Deer Contraceptive” program aimed at costing American tax payers $170,000 when the government could make money by allowing bow hunters to reduce the over population.

Story: In Bexar County Texas a man was forced to shoot one of the people he was attempting to help.  A couple had run out of gas on the road and the second, older, man had stopped to help.  In the course of the encounter the older man had a dispute with the younger one over the way the younger man was addressing his wife when the younger man reportedly attacked the older man.  At this time the older man was forced to shoot his attacker in the shoulder.  Deputies are investigating the shooting before they make any arrests, the older man is reported to have a Concealed Handgun License.

Story: Additional crimes with firearms from the Fast and Furious scandal have surfaced in Mexico.  At least three more murders, an attempted murder, and some kidnappings have been linked to weapons from the failed operation.

Story: A cache of weapons have been found along the Mexican Border by border patrol agents.  The weapons include a number of semiautomatic firearms, a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher, and a material that may prove to be plastic explosives.

Story: Rather than be a victim of an armed robbery, a store clerk in Swanton Vermont engaged and disarmed a robbery suspect who managed to escape the scene.  Police are hoping the weapon taken from him will help identify him as they say it is a unique small silver pistol, although they are not releasing any other details about it.

Story: A United Nations firearm instructor from France shot himself in the leg while attending a recertification at Smith & Wesson’s Shooting Sports Center.

Story: The ATF recently released a ruling that medical marijuana users can not legally purchase firearm from an FFL dealer.  On the 4473 the buyer is asked “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana, or any depressant, stimulant, or narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”  The ATF concludes that medical marijuana users must answer yes because marijuana is illegal under federal law, even with a perscription.

Story: A robbery suspect in Fort Worth Texas chose the wrong place to try and hide when a Grandmother armed with a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum held him at gun point until police arrived.  The suspect told the grandmother “I give up, ma’am. I give up. The police are looking for me.”

Story: A copper theft turned into a shoot out and chase with police in Fort Worth Texas.  Deputies spotted the theft in progress when responding to a call at the location and observed the suspects pulling copper from the building.  The suspects fled the scene but were stopped in a field before fleeing on foot, however they took time to fire shots at the deputies chasing them.  both suspects were taken into custody and can face charges of theft and aggravated assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.

Story: The Village Council of Ruidoso New Mexico has voted to rescind the illegal executive order issued by the mayor that banned firearms from municipal buildings.

The Rifles we will discuss are: an H&R Sportser .17HMR, an Ithica Gun Co. Model 72 Saddlegun, a Mossberg 146b, a Ruger 10/22, a Russian T03-99, Savage 93R17 Bolt Action 17HMR, and an Ultra-Hi Model 2200.  These guns run the range from old to new, and represent almost every action conceivable aside from a pump action.

When it comes to Handguns we were not able to get everything we wanted to shoot.  I tried to borrow a Ruger Charger, but could not get my schedule to line up with the owners so I was unable to borrow it.  However we will discuss a Chiappa Puma 1911-22, a Heritage Manufacturing Rough Rider 22 combo, a Jennings J-22, a Ruger Standard, its descendant a Ruger 22/45 MK III, and a Smith & Wesson 22A (Target model).

While discussing some rimfire history Ken was able to find an article about Israel’s IDF use of supressed Ruger 10/22 rifles.

Story: Guns from the Fast and Furious scandal have been linked to at least eleven more criminal acts in the United States.  These crimes have occurred in at least the states of Texas and Arizona.

Story: A Houston man driving a gray 2008 Pontiac G6 was arrested for impersonating a Police Officer in Texas City.  The arrest happened after he attempted to stop a female subject who called 911 about the suspicious unmarked vehicle.

Story: In Iowa the administrative rules committee has elected to strip the ban on traditional ammunition from the final rule for Iowa’s first Dove season.  In order for the rule to be permanently stripped the legislature must vote to remove it next year or the ban will go into effect.

Story: A teen was killed by a retired police officer while attempting to rob a Detroit McDonald’s.  Police are investigating the shooting and have stated it is unclear as to whether the suspect died at the scene or at the hospital.  The retired officer was uninjured.

Story: “Burglars need to realize that if they don’t want to get shot, they shouldn’t be breaking into people’s homes,” said Titus County Sheriff Tim Ingram while updating the press about a burglary with shots fired call.  The burglary suspect was shot by the caretaker of the property.

Story: In Sweetwater Texas a car chase ended with fatal results when a suspect was shot and killed by police.  The suspect stopped fleeing, then approached officers with his hand under his shirt, got into a police car with weapons in it, and was shot by officers on the scene.  According to officers the suspect ignored multiple orders to stop the aggression.  As is standard procedure, all officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave until the Texas Rangers have completed an investigation into the incident.

Story: A Texas Company has launched a lawsuit aimed at stopping the new reporting requirement for the sale of multiple long guns.

Story: A Midland Texas Woman, who was attacked by a male suspect while she was leaving the Midland Park Mall, was praised by the City Police for fighting back.  The suspect was armed with a gun.

Update: The Canton Ohio notification incident has an update.  The Internal Affairs reports that the officer in question broke department rules and regulations in the stop.  The officer will now get a hearing, and faces punishment from 30 days off to termination of employment.

What is truly interesting is that more than one post referenced a post from another user sometimes supporting that post, or refuting it and providing a link to support their position.  The reason that this is truly interesting is that ALL comments made by non-administrators must be approved before they appear where the public can read them, and none of the posts had been approved.  Today I had more of the same appear.  It appears, from what I have seen, that someone is trying to astroturf for GOA.  None of the IP addresses were confirmed as being from GOA, or even as being from their home city of Springfield so there is no evidence to say that they themselves are involved.

One comment pointed out that we recently started mentioning that you should evaluate an organisation based on what it doe, if that organisation only seems to exists to put down other pro-Second Amendment organisations or ask for money then you really should question their purpose.  That comment then went on to say that we added that as an attack to GOA.  Actually that was added to cover a different organisation that I disagree with, but if the shoe fits then maybe you should wear it.

The fate of  comments was simple, rather than approve them, I deleted every last one of them like I do spam.  Now why would someone attempt to spam our comments with stuff relating to GOA?  I truly have no clue.  It may be that they thought it would be funny to do, or maybe they want us to support GOA, or maybe they want to cause strife.  Whatever the reason for the comments was I am glad that we have moderation enable for comments and we will continue to keep our comments spam free.

Story: Our first story is about a man who purchased a Colt 1911 pistol in an online auction.  According to the article it turns out that the pistol was stolen more than thirty years ago.  The buyer returned the gun to the owner who had been issued the Medal of Honor.  The most interesting thing about the Citation for the Medal is that it mentions the pistol in question.  The buyer didn’t want money for returning the gun, however the rightful owner wanted to make things right for the buyer and gave him another Model 1911 that had in fact belonged to a close friend of the owner.

Story: A woman who develops games and at one time donated money to anti-gun groups is now a gun owner.  In the article she talks about how games do not make people killers and she talks about how gaming made her a better shooter.

Story: The NRA, and firearms dealers, have filed a lawsuit against the new reporting rule issued by the ATF.  The article is more balanced than you would think since it is titled “Gun lobby fights Mexico border rifle sale control.”

Story: In Miami a Kidnapping and robbery could have easily turned into a murder when the Kidnappers kidnapped a man and took himto his home where they introduced his girlfriend, who they apparently kidnapped as well, to his wife.

Story: Twenty six AK-74 rifles and one Dragunov sniper rifle were stolen from a California military base somewhat recently.  These weapons are most likely full auto and one rifle has been recovered.  There is a reward for information leading to the arrest of the thieves and recovery of the weapons.  Some arrests have already been made in this case.

Story: Feeling the need to dance in the blood of gun control victims, gun control organisations in the United States are calling for more gun control as a result of the mass shooting in Norway.

Story: In Ohio a nutjob went on a shooting spree where he killed seven people before being confronted by police and was stopped.

Story: An attorney in New Jersey is offering a $5000 reward to the first person who can show to his satisfaction that the New Jersey gun buyback program that allows anonymous disposal of firearms at churches is legal.  There are four issues that is mentioned in the article that any legal argument must overcome.

Story: While addressing the National Council of La Raza President Obama said that he would like to “bypass Congress and change the laws” on his own. He also added, “Believe me; the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. I promise you.”

Story: In Skyway Washington a witness to a shooting captured, searched, and handcuffed the suspect before police could arrive.  The initial shooting occurred as the result of an argument over a drug deal, in which both parties were carrying guns.  The party who was shot was taken to the hospital, while the suspect who was handcuffed was taken to jail.

Story: In Illinois local leaders of Law Enforcement support the legalization of concealed carry.  Illinois is the only state in the United States without any provision for concealed carry, in fact it will soon be the only state that completely prohibits legal carry.

Story: A Pregnant Houston woman was robbed at gun point by a fake police officer in Alvin Texas.  The victim failed to get a description of the suspect, or his vehicle.  The article gives good advice for drivers being stopped at night.

Story: Two robbery victims complied with the suspects demands and were shot anyway.

Story: In St. Petersburg Florida an armed robbery suspect, who was wearing a ski mask, was shot multiple times when the intended victim drew his own legally concealed firearm and defended himself.

Story: In Monte Alto Texas a sixteen year old boy used a shotgun to defend his mother and himself from three armed suspects who fired at him.  The victim returned fire with a shotgun wounding one suspect in the leg.  Two suspects are teens and are currently in custody while the third, who is believed to be twenty or twenty one, remains at large.

Story: A kidnapping and ransom plot was foiled when the suspect was out smarted by his victim.  The suspect kidnapped the victim making her think that he was armed with a gun then attempted to force her to withdraw money from an ATM.  The victim told the suspect that her card was a credit card, but she had money with a friend.  The only problem was the friend didn’t speak english.  The suspect let her contact the friend who contacted police.  The police were waiting when the suspect brought the victim to get the money, and the suspect was arrested without incident.  Turns out the suspect was not armed.

Story: A woman who attempted to shoot a police officer twice was unable to do so.  It would appear that the cylinder of her revolver swung open and dumped her ammunition while she was fleeing the officer.

Story: A fifth slashing attack on mall shoppers has resulted in the injury of an eighteen year old female.  The attacker’s image has been captured on video, however no identification has been made.

Story: According to Law enforcement a now deceased suspect who was killed while trying to rob a hotel clerk also planned to rape the clerk who was 100 pounds lighter and at least a foot shorter than the suspect.  The clerk used a .22 caliber weapon that she had received permission from her employer to carry while at work.  The deceased is also a suspect in at least on other rape and robbery that occurred in June.

Story: In case you haven’t heard about by now, A Canton Ohio police officer went completely berserk during a traffic stop and actually threatened to kill a man licensed to carry a concealed handgun for not informing the officers fast enough. Interestingly enough the licensee did try to tell officers more than once, only to be told to shut up or otherwise be silenced.  It has also been reported that the officer in the video has made similar threats in the past.  Additionally a member of the city council goes on a rant about how concealed carry is the problem rather than a mentally defective officer being on the force.

Story: A bill has been introduced by Representative Ron Paul that if passed would repeal the Federal Gun Free School Zones act.

Story: For those who are involved in competitive shooting sports, law enforcement, or otherwise wish to improve their ability to shoot difficult targets Brownell’s has The Extreme Hostage Target made by Challenge Targets.

Story: In Delaware authorities are investigating a robbery that turned into a shoot out.  The events started when the manager of a strip club left the building while carrying a bag containing the nights proceeds and he was shot at by a male suspect.  The victim dropped the bag while running for cover and drawing his own weapon.  A total of five suspects then fired on the victim before they grabbed the bag and fled the scene.

Story: Things didn’t go according to plan when two suspects attempted to rob a metal business in Cleveland Ohio.  The suspects shot at, and wounded, an employee who returned fire hitting one of the suspects in the leg.  Both suspect were captured nearby.

Story: A suspect was shot in Florida during a failed home invasion.  The wounded suspect, and three others, confronted a woman and identified themselves as police and forced their way into her home.  Her husband shot one suspect and forced the others to flee.  The wounded suspect and two others were captured while the fourth remains at large.

Story: A second attempt at a terrorist attack was made against Fort Hood located in Texas.  The suspect condemned the original attack less than a year ago, however was arrested with weapons and at least one explosive device that it is believed were to be used in a second attack.  The suspect requested a discharge from the Army based on conscientious objector status due to his Muslim faith, and was AWOL at the time of his arrest.

Story: In related news it turns out that the second attempted attack on Fort Hood was stopped in part by a clerk at Guns Galore who contacted Kileen Texas police about suspicious purchases by the suspect.

Story: It is now starting to appear that Gun Walker may be part of a larger operation that is making some people ask, is the Obama administration attempting to help overthrow the Mexican Government?  With reports that the Zeta Cartel may attempt to overthrow the Mexican Government in 2012, along with reports that the State Department has been selling military grade weapons directly to the Zetas, and Gun Walker also helping supply weapons to the Cartels, there is enough material to make someone consider the possibility.

Story: The NRA addressed the United Nations about the Arms Trade Treaty and briefly outlined why they oppose the treaty.

Story: The NRA has plans to challenge the Executive order requiring FFLs to report multiple semi-auto long gun sales.

Story: A House panel inserted a rider into the Justice Department’s appropriations bill that will prevent the Just department from enforcing an executive order requiring the reporting of multiple long gun sales by FFLs in border states.

Story: In Oklahoma City a homeowner shot two possibly three home invaders in self defense after they returned from a botched burglary of that home earlier in the day.  Two suspects are in custody while the third remains at large.

Story: The Army Corps Of Engineers currently bans firearms on all property that it owns or controls, even when the possession of firearms is legally protected by state laws.  However an Arizona representative plans to offer an amendment that would permit concealed carry on ACOE lands.  The story touched upon while discussing this about a burned body being found on USACE lands can be found here.

Story: Governor Walker of Wisconsin has signed into law a bill that will allow state residents to get a concealed carry permit unless there is justifiable cause, such as a felony conviction.  This makes Wisconsin the 49th state to support some form of legal concealed carry.

Story: Efforts to test the Montana Firearms Freedom act in a court of law are currently in motion.  The Author of the bill has plans to sell a .22 rifle he calls the Montana Buckaroo in an effort to reverse what many feel are over reaching laws and regulations passed by the federal government.

Story: A carjacking victim and his friend had a rolling shoot out with armed suspects who had taken the victims car from him.  The suspects appear to have been armed with a 9mm handgun and the victim was armed with a 12 gauge shotgun.  Once the suspects wrecked the victims car they fled the scene and remain at large.

Story: The Executive order issued by United States President Barack Hussein Obama that intends to require FFLs in border states to report multiple sales of semi-auto long guns appears to be legally invalid under federal law.

Story: A Louisiana man who was charged with three murders will now have those charges dropped because of a single bullet casing.  No this isn’t part of the plot from CSI or NCIS, but a real life situation where the weapon was used in another crime while the suspect was in custody which causes enough reasonable doubt for the prosecution to release the suspect.  The suspect has now been charged under federal law for the illegal possession of ammunition found in his home after the arrest.

Story: An Iraq war veteran received a call from a neighbor alerting him to a burglar breaking into his home.  Normally clearing a house should be left to professionals who are properly trained to do so, however this particular veteran served with Army Special Forces so he knew how to do the job and he knew the layout of the house.

Story: Normally we don’t link to press releases from the Government, however Border Patrol agents seized six rifles, twenty six magazines, and three hundred sixty rounds of ammo.  The items were found in a large duffel bag hidden near the Rio Grande in some brush.

Story: A candidate for mayor in Baltimore has proposed an ammunition tax of $1 per cartridge that is sold in the city.

News:
Story: The NRA, Second Amendment Foundation, Illinois State Rifle Association, and three Illinois residents are currently involved in a lawsuit against the state with the intent of legalizing some form of carry.  Illinois is the only state in the union that completely prohibits the legal carrying of a handgun for self defense.

Story: In West Virginia a suspect was shot by a resident of the house he is accused of attempting to burglarize.  The resident attempted to hold the suspect at gun point until the suspect charged him and the resident was forced to shoot.  The suspect is listed as being in stable condition from a gunshot wound to the head.

Story: The Brady Campaign and other gun banners have a new ally in their war on constitutional freedom, that ally is none other than al Qaeda.

Story: The Governor of New Hampshire has signed into law a bill that gives the state preemption over knife laws.  The bill was backed by an organization called Knife Rights.

Story: In Pennsylvania a black bear was put down after associating humans with food.  While the bear had not attacked anyone, it could have easily done so.

Story: A woman was firing an AR15 rifle at a target inside the master bedroom closet when she missed and negligently shot the washing machine.  When she was asked to write a sworn statement she said “I’ll try my best but I’m drunk.”  And the story only gets stranger from there when it’s revealed that it was unclear as to what the husband was grilling.

Story: We do have a follow up on the story we discussed back in Episode 18 where a 26 year old former Marine was shot and killed.  The SWAT team had at least one camera running and in the video does seem to identify themselves, however the video does not show what happens inside the residence and leaves many questions unanswered as well as creates some new ones.

Story: We have a story where a group of law enforcement officers including the Texas Rangers, Texas Game Wardens, and the U.S. Border Patrol came under heavy fire from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande River.  The American officers returned fire at the suspected cartel officers.

Story: A customer who attempted to detain armed robbers in a Houston Texas Grocery Store was shot by the suspects while he attempted to hold the door shut on them.

Story: In Arizona the Pima County Sheriff’s were involved in the fatal shooting of a twenty six year old former United States Marine.  There are a number of stories on this subject but the deceased was shot while holding a rifle in apparent defense of his home and family by members of the county SWAT team who were serving a  search warrant.

Story: The Second Amendment Foundation has challenged the ban on the interstate sale of handguns as part of their efforts to follow up on the Heller decision.  The SAF and Michelle Lane are filing their suit because as a resident of the District of Columbia Miss Lane can not purchase a firearm since there are no active dealers in the city.

Story: A Minnesota man was forced to defend himself by using deadly force against two attackers who are suspects in a number of violent south Minneapolis robberies.  It is unknown if he shot either suspect but police do not plan on charging the victim with any crime while they follow up leads on his attackers.

Story: In Kentucky a woman decided to draw her sword during an argument she was having with another party at Pizza Hut.  Her brother took the weapon from her and secured it in the vehicle where police found it after receiving permission to search the vehicle.

Story: In Washington a man was forced to use his firearm against three dogs that attacked him and his dog that was playing with in the park.  He managed to shoot one of the attacking dogs, and the gun fire scared off the other two.  All four animals are alive and are expected to make full recoveries.

Story: Kim Rhode, a four time Olympic medalist, has a chance to be the first American to win a medal in an individual sport in five consecutive Olympics.  She currently shoots Women’s Skeet and is the first U.S. athlete to be named to the London team.

Story: In New York Multiple thieves were robbing people at a business when they attacked an off duty police officer because they discovered he was armed.  The officer was wounded before engaging the thieves and fought until he was unable to.  At this point another victim picked up the officers weapon then shot at, and chased off the theives.  When this story first broke there was talk that the man who picked up the wounded officers weapon would be charged with illegally carrying a gun, that issue is no longer a problem and he won’t be charged.

Story: Two suspects in a tow truck robbery were shot by the intended victim who decided to fight back after having given them the money.

Story: A man who was armed with a chainsaw was shot and killed while burglarizing a Seattle business.  A second suspect was detained by the employee until police arrived.  The deceased was a repeat offender with previous charges relating to theft and narcotics.

Story: A robbery attempt at an Oklahoma convenience store resulted in a gun fight when someone in the store opened fire on the suspect who returned fire and fled.  Police believe the suspect may have been hit and have alerted area hospitals.

Story: A Michigan Judge has decided to dismiss charges against a Bay City store worker who wore a stun gun for personal protection.  The judge ruled that the state law that prohibits the possession of stun guns violates the United States Constitution in this case.

Story: A man was shot and critically wounded in his own home by an off-duty police officer.  The officer saw the man carrying a gun in and out of a house.  The officer claims that he identified himself and demanded the other man put his weapon down.  The officer then claims the man tried to escape by going inside the home where he drew the weapon and was shot.  Witnesses dispute this chain of events.

Note: All guns were tested in factory stock configuration except for the XDm-45 which has an aftermarket trigger and solid guide rod installed.

1: (M&P9) The sear moves the striker significantly prior to release due to the design of the striker system.  The M&P9 is not a true double action as the slide must cycle so that the sear can re-engage the striker.
2: (Springfield guns): These guns use a true single action design in which the movement of the trigger causes minimal movement of the striker prior to release, and the slide must be cycled prior to operating the trigger again.
3: Caliber affects maximum capacity, +1 indicates one round more than the magazine holds can be loaded into the firearm by placing a round into the chamber.
4: All models tested are available with factory night sites and aftermarket options are available.
5: The Sig P226 has an external decocker to place the gun into double action mode.
6: The M&P line of handguns are available with a thumb safety
7: The Sig P226 grip can be adjusted by changing the grip panels.

Story: In New York a man was forced to defend himself from three home invaders who had already shot his dog.  One suspect was found dead at the scene, a second was hospitalised from shotgun wounds, and a third suspect was in custody.  The dog that had been shot is expected to survive.

Story: Houston Police have arrested a suspect in a drive by shooting that left one victim dead.  The suspect is currently free on a $100,000 bond.

Story: In Lake Dallas Texas Police were alerted to a situation where a man had claimed to have killed his father and may have intended to harm his ex-girlfriend and former co-worker.  The suspect was located and arrested when he pulled into the trailer park where the other parties were living together.  Sheriff’s deputies went to the father’s home and found him deceased.

Story: In Houston Texas a man was shot while watching a pickup basket ball game.  The suspect fled the scene and has not been located.

Story: A man was shot in the back at a South Houston Ice House and was listed in Serious, but Stable, condition.  Everyone, including the victim, fled the scene however the victim was transported to a location that had a police officer who called for an ambulance.  The article does not mention a motive, and the suspect remains at large.

The quote for this episode comes from General Douglas MacArthur who once said “The best luck of all is the luck you make for yourself.”

Story: When three armed men attempted to burglarize an apple store in California they discovered that apples armed security guards “just work.”  The guard engaged the robbers in a gun fight that resulted in the getaway driver dying in a car crash and two other suspects being arrested.

Story: In Florida a store clerk chased off an armed robber with nothing more than a screw driver.  The suspect fled the scene without taking any money or using his weapon.

Story: The attempted carjacking of a Texas City family ended badly for the suspects after they were scared off by the victims trying to signal for help and being shot at by an area resident.  The suspects fled the scene in their vehicle but were apprehended after an hour long chase that ended in League City.  The article says the suspects had an assault rifle, which had been reported stolen, and were driving a stolen vehicle.

Story: The fail gun was running wild in San Diego when a suspect forced a donut shop employee to drink soap with a handgun that had the slide locked back.  This situation could have been better handled if the employee had knowledge of firearms, or had locked the back door on his way back in.  But at least the suspect knows how to show clear.

Story: In Louisiana a thirty year old woman was forced to use a firearm to defend herself and her three children against a twenty one year old armed attacker.  The article says that the suspect’s name was not released by police, but does mention it.

Story: In Knoxville Tennessee a man will be charged with attempted robbery, after he recovers from the beating he received.  When the police arrived at the scene they found the beaten suspect was restrained with duct tape.  The weapon used by the suspect used was found to be a pellet gun.

Story: The Second Amendment Foundation and the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association have filed a lawsuit against against New York City regarding the excessive fees charged for the costs associated with Pistol Licensing.  The potential impact of this lawsuit is significant depending on how far it makes it in the court system.

Story: Amanda Collins was attacked and raped on the campus of a Nevada University in October of 2007. Now she is an advocate for concealed carry on campus.  She was licensed to carry a concealed handgun at the time that she became the first known victim of a serial rapist who later killed at least one of his victims.

Texas Legislative Update
Story: The Texas State Rifle Association needs the help of Texans to support the parking lot bill that is now in the House calendars committee.  Additionally the Campus Carry bill before the Senate also needs support.

News
Story: One of two suspects in a home invasion was kind enough to leave a picture of himself behind.  The picture is on a shirt with the words “MAKING MONEY IS MY THANG.”  We at the ProGun Podcast would like to thank this suspect for helping police in their investigation into his crime.

Story: The Providence Rhode Island Police Department has decided to replace their current firearms made by a European manufacturer with five hundred and ten Smith and Wesson M&P handguns in the same caliber.  To help in the transition process Smith and Wesson is providing the department with services such as armory training and technical support.  Now if your like us you probably wondering what was being replaced, for that check out our next story.

Story: In 2007 the Providence Rhode Island Police Department replaced their eleven year old Beretta 96D Centurion pistols with Beretta PX4 Storm (Type C) pistols.  The purchase was for 500 hundred pistols chambered in the same .40S&W cartridge as the previous guns.

Story: In Texas a man was fatally shot after he attempted an armed robbery of a father and son with an two accomplices.  One of the victims, the father, took the deceased suspects weapon and shot him before two of the suspects fled the scene.  One suspect was held at gun point by the victims for police and later police discovered the body of the fatally wounded suspect.

Story: A Major League Baseball  player for the Tampa Bay Rays had an AK-47 type firearm stolen from his residence.  While there is some anti-gun controversy about him owning the firearm he politely tells the press that him owning the weapon is his own personal business and is none of their business.

Story: In November of 2010 a home invader in San Marcos Texas was fatally shot by the resident who was defending the residence.  Police say that this incident may be related to a recent attack on an eighteen year old female who lives at the residence.

Story: As a follow up on the last story the home owner’s case did go before the grand jury which no-billed him meaning he would not face a trial on the evidence as it was presented to the grand jury.  What makes this story interesting is that the mother of the home invader is considering a civil suit against the homeowner.  With the grand jury verdict and police evidence the home owner should have little trouble showing that he has immunity from such lawsuits under Texas law.

Story: In Atlanta Georgia a customer was approached by a suspect who placed a weapon to the victim’s chest and demanded money.  The suspect shot the victim, took their keys, and stole the victim’s car.  The vehicle was recovered a short distance from the scene.

Texas Legislative Update
HB2756: Texas House Bill 2756 would essentially modify the laws regarding the Texas Concealed Handgun License so that a license holder would be able to carry openly or concealed.  In essence the bill, if it becomes law, would allow for licensed Open Carry.

News:

Story: This story comes to us directly from the double barrel fail gun of Portland Oregon.  While this is our first time to mention it, many people will remember the story of the man who broke into a home to take a shower and then called 911 when the home owner showed up because he was afraid the home owner might have a gun.  Well, the second barrel of the fail gun came into play when the same criminal was arrested loading stolen property into a stolen car, only two days later.

Story: An Indiana woman shot her ex-boyfriend after he broke into her house and started beating and choking her.  The woman then drew her weapon and shot the suspect once in the stomach.  The suspect then fled the scene but was arrested by police after being taken to the emergency room.

Story: In Utah a man was forced to defend himself against five attackers who had gone to evict him.  The man was confronted in a shed.  The man shot three of the five attackers after being assaulted and hit in the head with a brick.

Story: In Houston a Pct 6 Constable’s deputy was injured when he shot himself in the thigh.  The officer is expected to make a full recovery.

Video: For this story I am going to refer to a video of how things should not be done.  What we see in this video is a nasty mess of poor marksman ship, firing blindly, poor carry condition, and so on.

Story: A man was so enraged by the 50¢ price increase for a beefy crunch burrito that he shot at the manager with an air gun.  For his next stunt he displayed a rifle and pistol, before leaving the location.  He later pointed a weapon at officers who pulled him over.  When the officers responded by opening fire the suspect fled to his hotel room where he barricaded himself in, resulting in a three hour standoff.  When it was settled the suspect was taken into custody, no one was injured, and all of his weapons were discovered to be air guns.

Story: Two Houston men were shot and killed over what appears to be a case of a lost cell phone.  The victims found the phone, and when the owner called it arranged to meet them.  When the owner showed up they shot at the victims, killing one, while the second attempted to flee.  The suspects chased the second victim down and killed him.

Texas Legislative Updates:
Story: It looks like campus carry will be the law of the land in Texas with the governor supporting the legislation, more than half of the state House signed on as co-sponsors, and the Senate expected to pass their bill.
Story: In Texas controversy is in the air because the Speaker of the House (Texas Legislature) has assigned the parking lot bill to the Business & Industry Committee.  The bill is now scheduled for a hearing and still needs your support.

News:
Story: In Odessa Texas a resident shot at a group of suspects burglarizing a work vehicle.  The article references the Texas Penal Code and points out that it is believed that the suspects were trying to steel copper.  The article points out that the District attorney will decide if the case goes before a grand jury after the investigation is complete.

Story: In Keller Texas a man claimed to be a Police Officer, then used a handgun to intimidate three people in their vehicle.  When he was arrested the suspect had belt and wallet badges from the Los Angeles California Sheriff’s Department.  Keller police are investigating to see if the suspect had any ties to that department.

Story: In Detroit Michigan a pizza delivery man was forced to defend himself when three suspects attempted to rob him.  Fortunately for the delivery man he is licensed to carry a concealed firearm, and was doing so.  One suspect was killed and police are looking for the other two.

Story: In Florida a home invader was killed with his own weapon.  Two female victims at the residence were shot, but the injuries were not critical.  According to the Florida Department of Corrections the suspect was a repeat offender who had been previously convicted of car jackings and drug offenses.

Story: The Lubbock Texas Police Department has stated that they believe that one of their officers was justified in the fatal shooting of a suspect who was armed with a knife that he was holding over his girlfriend.  The officer shot the suspect to protect the victim who had called 911 to report a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.

Campus Carry:
Story: In Lubbock Texas College students seem to be the targets of robbers, and the places they frequent appear to be robbed more frequently than others according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal.
Story: In Lubbock, a former Texas Tech Student was recently arrested on terrorism related charges.  He had a list of targets ranging from three people who served at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, power plants, and the house of former President Bush among other targets.

News:
Story: In an article called “Controlling Guns, One Class at a Time” Pamela Kripke wrote that she wanted to make her students “horrified that he had a gun.”  In essence she is more interested in teaching her beliefs than she is in teaching the knowledge.  To combat this every parent needs to take their children out to the range and teach them to shoot.  While they are out there they need to ensure that the child enjoys the experience.

Story: In Detroit a nutjob walked into a police precinct and proceeded to shoot 4 officers before being killed by officers on the scene.  None of the officers appear to have received life threatening injuries.  Imagine what would have happened if this nutjob had decided to shoot up a gun free zone rather than a police station.

Story: Here is a good article about hunting hogs with some good advice.

Story: A Los Angles police officer appears to have lied about how he was shot.  The officer claimed to have been shot when he approached a suspect that was peering into parked cars.  This particular lie tied up law enforcement resources and resulted in the officer being charged with a felony.

Story: In Arizona a 19 year old man was forced to defend himself against three suspects who had already attempted to rob a homeless man, and assaulted a thirteen year old.  The victim was forced to draw his weapon and shoot one of the suspects.  Charges have been declined by the local District Attorney’s office since the victim acted in self defense.

Story: New York City Mayor Bloomberg is at it again.  Weeks after the shooting of representative Giffords Mayor Bloomberg sent investigators to an Arizona gun show.  Interestingly enough the article says that the investigators were Arizona residents so they broke no laws.  The Federal Government may still be able to charge the mayor, New York City, and the investigators with interfering in any ongoing investigations that may have been affected by Bloomberg’s efforts.

Story: In California a Fresno judge has overturned California’s ammo registration law. The law would have required dealers record who bought the ammo, its intended purpose, and the buyers fingerprints.
Story: In Wyoming the state senate has passed a bill that would require all schools to offer Hunter and Gun safety classes as an elective to fifth and sixth grades.  The elective course could be offered as an extracurricular activity.
Story: In Georgia a woman used her Taurus Judge to fight off two armed attackers. One attacker possessed a knife while a second attacker was armed with a handgun and had a badge of some kind. The Woman states that she did shoot and hit the man with the handgun, after which both attackers fled.
Story: A Republican Senator from Indiana has called on congress to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban that expired in 2004. This particular senator supported the original Clinton Assault Weapons Ban when it was introduced in 1994.
Story: In Arlington Texas there is an effort to permit teachers with a CHL to carry while they are at work.  If this policy change is approved by the school board then Arlington would be following in the Steps of the Harrold Texas ISD which first enacted a similar policy more than two years ago.

Texas Legislative Updates:
SB354, HB86: These bills aim to legalize campus carry, we prefer HB86 over SB354 due to the Senate bill providing a loophole for some campuses to ban guns.
SB321: This is a bill to allow employees to safely store firearms in their vehicles at work.
HB356: This is one bill we feel must be stopped.  This bill would prohibit Texas Residents from carrying on an out of state license.
HB181: This bill would provide for a sales tax holiday on firearms and ammunition.
HB25, HB77: These bills are identical and would allow people to carry a firearm in a watercraft just like they would in their motor vehicle.
HB145, HB298: This bill is more about the 10th Amendment rather than the 2nd Amendment.  But they would exempt firearms made and sold in Texas from federal regulation.

News:
Story: On Saturday January 9th at an Arizona Grocery store a single man armed with a gun shot eighteen people, killing at least 6 including a Federal Judge.  The target of the shooting appeared to be Gabrielle Giffords, a United States representative for Arizona’s 8th congressional district.

Story: In Ohio a Woman came to the aid of an officer being attacked by a suspect.  While she was initially restrained by officers after the incident she was released as soon as they realized she assisted the officer.

Story: A Texas man used an AK47 type rifle to defend himself from four to five attackers.  A witness followed the suspects to a residence where police received permission to search and found a man hiding and items used in the home invasion.  A second man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound and police are investigating to determine if that subject was also involved in the home invasion.

Story: In New Hampshire State Representative Peter Hansen was forced to defend himself against a twenty year old intruder who had broken into his home.  Mr Hansen ended up holding the suspect at gun point until police arrived.

Story: In Arkansas a seventeen year old suspect was shot in the face by a fourteen year old boy.  The suspect was breaking into the fourteen year old’s home when he was shot.

Story: In Baltimore A plainclothes was shot and killed by uniformed officers.  The deceased had responded to a report of a fight and was attempting to break it up when he was attacked, forcing him to draw his weapon to defend himself.  Reports are that the deceased was wearing his badge, but had no other indicators about him that he was a peace officer.

News:
Story: There is a new Gun Rights Organization in Texas called the Texas Firearms Coalition.  This organization aims to fill some niches that the TSRA does not fill, with the only area of overlap being legislative.

Story: The New Jersey Governor Commuted the sentence of Brian Aitken who was convicted on firearms charges.  The arrest and conviction were extremely controversial and is being appealed.  I would like to point out that this action by the governor allowed Mr. Aitken to be home for Christmas.

Story: To show that every gun fight has two sides we bring you this story about a tow truck operator who shot and killed a man on Christmas Eve.  The operator had just booted the other mans minivan when he had been confronted by the other party.  At some point the minivan owner revealed his gun and which caused the the operator to give the keys to the boot to the owner’s brother.  While the owners brother was removing the boot he heard gun shots turned around and saw the scene.  The stories differ at this point.  The brother’s story is that while he didn’t see the first shots, he did in fact witness the operator execute his brother by shooting him in the back.  The operator claims things happened differently, but is not talking to the media.  The article points out that the operator has a violent history but has no convictions for the events it mentions.

Story: Harrison County Ohio officials will not charge a man for shooting, and killing, a black bear.  Based on the evidence officials have concluded that the bear was charging right at the man who was deer hunting.  The bear appears to have been shot from a distance of less than 30 feet, which indicates that the hunter was in immediate danger.

Story: In Houston Texas a Homeowner with a CHL found himself in a gun fight with three robbers, at least one of which was armed with a firearm as well.  While no one was injured during the gun fight, two suspects were captured, one was captured by the homeowner himself.

Story: We had a drive by shooting in our county.  A twenty four year old male, and a twenty five year old female were arrested in connection to the shooting.  The thing about this shooting is that the primary suspect was a felon.  We will attempt to learn more about the shooting, and how the suspect illegally acquired to the weapon.

Story: We have a story from Duluth Minnesota where a local judge used his .45 caliber Glock to to subdue a 26 year old suspect who had broken into his home.  Alcohol was involved in this incident.

Texas Legislative Update:
1. Texas HB 356 would make it illegal for a Texas Resident to carry on an out of state carry license.  The legislation would still allow the use of a non-resident license by a non-resident of the state.
2. Texas HB 145 would exempt firearms made and sold only in Texas from Federal regulation.

News:
Story: In a case that shows criminals ignore gun free school zones a man with a known criminal history took a small caliber handgun to a school board meeting in Florida.  The criminal exchanged fire with the school security before being fatally wounded.

Story: Guns Magazine has an article about how open carry is dangerous, even where legal.  The basic premise is that open carriers should be ready to be harrased or attacked due to poor training, or behaviour, on the part of law enforcement.  The article only shows why educating the public and law enforcement is critical with any open carry effort.

Story: In Florida a road rage incident led to a non-fatal shooting in Seminole County.  The aggressor punched the victim several times before the victim shot him in self defense.  The aggressor has a criminal history, although the disposition of the previous cases is unknown.

Story: From the how not to act when involved in a shooting category we have a California jewelry vendor that shot a fleeing suspect in the back.  After the suspect collapsed the vendor stood over him and said “That’s what you get. I hope you don’t die” while waving the gun around.

Story: A Houston Texas jewelry store owner engaged three armed robbers, killing them all.  The business man was shot three times requiring surgery.  After shooting one robber with his concealed handgun the business man retrieved his shot gun and engaged the other two.

Story: Once more the government wants to know more about people buying guns.  An emergency measure has been proposed that would require dealers along the south western border to report the sale of multiple semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines and are of a caliber larger than .22.  They claim this would help prevent straw purchases intended for use in Mexico.

Story: A 15 year old student took 24 people hostage before letting them go and fatally shooting himself. The student was armed with two semi-auto firearms.

Story: A woman saved her husband from two armed intruders by using a handgun. One intruder had already shot and beaten her husband by the time the woman had retrieved her 357 magnum and ended the attack. At least one suspect was shot, and later died from his wounds.

Story: The military has a new weapon system that it has begun to deploy in Afghanistan. The new system is called the XM25 and fires a 25×40 airburst grenade that can be programmed to explode at a distance set by the user of the weapon.

Story: Two Hunters in Maryland were involved in an negligent shooting when one hunter in a stand mistook his friend for a deer and shot him. The injured hunter survived, however he was not wearing an orange vest.

Story: A suspect wearing a mask entered a convenience store and shot a customer. The suspect was then shot in the face by the clerk who drew his own weapon. The suspect who fled the scene was later found by police. Both the suspect and his victim were taken to the hospital where the victim died.

Story: Gun Free School Zones are supposed to keep all guns out of schools right? Apparently someone forgot to tell that to the suspect involved in an armed robbery in the restroom of the Student Center at San Antonio College. A lockdown was initiated for several buildings however police were unable to locate the suspect.

Story: A Utah law maker believes that the state needs an official firearm, one designed by the state’s very own John Moses Browning. The proposed official firearm would the non other than the famous M1911.

To start things off we took everyone out to the range and shot a number of different firearms.  The next day we went out and shot prairie dogs while Renee and Rick watched.  After that we let them shoot the Taurus Judge and the Taurus Public Defender.  To follow that up we hit the studio so we could discuss the events, and even a little bit gun politics.  One guest was undecided on Campus carry, until we explained it and they now support it.

Story: A sixteen year old girl has done something most hunters will never do, She harvested three good sized bucks in one hour.

Story: A Houston Texas man who tried to help a female robbery victim was killed by an armed purse snatcher.

Story: A College President in Kilgore Texas has not only insulted survivors of the Luby’s Massacre, but has insulted people with a Concealed Handgun License as well. After that he makes things worse.

Story: A man tried to wake his friend up by using the loud popping sound of an air rifle, only he used a loaded .22 rifle instead. He shot his friend in the chest, killing him at the scene.

Safety
Story: An eleven year old boy found a loaded .40 caliber handgun laying in a yard, tragedy was averted because the boy knew what to do: Don’t Touch it and tell an adult. Which is what his grandfather had taught him. The lessons from the boy’s grandfather may have saved the boy’s life, or that of someone else.

Courts
Story: A Wisconsin court has ruled that the state’s ban on concealed weapons is unconstitutional. While the case set no precedent outside of the court that heard it, there is a good chance the case will be appealed and could set a precedent there.

Story: The cure for hoplophobia (the fear of firearms) is to expose people with the condition to shooting. Sometimes it results in the former hoplophobe becoming a gun rights advocate. A story just hit about Supreme Court Justice Scalia taking the newest Supreme Court Justice Kagan for a lesson on shooting skeet.

Courts
Story: The NRA has filed a lawsuit challenging the prohibition on handgun sales to anyone under twenty one years old by an FFL. The NRA also seeks to remove the under 21 year old restriction for Texas Concealed Handgun Licenses as well. The lawsuit they have filed in federal court was filed in Lubbock Texas.

Politics
Story: Chicago’s gun mew ordinances are designed to keep guns out of the hands of the poor. Additionally when a resident sells a gun the city of Chicago also wants to know who bought it and where it went.

Self Defense
Story: A robbery suspect in West Virginia got a surprise when he attempted to rob business where an employee retrieved a handgun and shot the suspect in the arm and Torso area. Police were investigating the scene when they were notified by an area hospital that the suspect had arrived with a gun shot wound.

Politics
Story: The Obama administration has prohibited the re-importation of over 100,000 surplus rifles back into the United States. The rifles in question are M1 Garands and Carbines that were originally provided to South Korea. According to South Korean officials “The U.S. insisted that imports of the aging rifles could cause problems such as firearm accidents. It was also worried the weapons could be smuggled to terrorists, gangs or other people with bad intentions.”

Story: President Obama signed the “Firearms Excise Tax Improvement Act of 2010” which will allow manufacturers to pay the excise tax on firearms and ammunition on a quarterly basis instead of the bi-weekly basis they have been forced to pay on.

Story: The EPA has denied the portion of a petition to ban Lead ammunition, although they will look into banning lead sinkers used by fishermen. The reason they denied the petition is that the EPA has no authority to regulate ammunition under the Toxic Substances Control Act.

Self Defense
Story: A Delivery man for a Chinese restaurant who was being punched in the face and beaten with a glass bottle by two assailants was forced to draw his weapon and shoot a teenage suspect. Police say the shooting appears to be justified, although the decision to charge the delivery man will be made by the District Attorney’s office.

Story: A man who attempted to rob a bail bonding business was fatally shot in Gadsden Alabama. According to reports a suspect, who was armed with a gun, entered the business wearing a mask and demanded money. The suspect then assaulted an employee and went to the desk and begun to go through the cash bag. A second employee, who was armed with a .45 semi auto pistol, entered from the back room and ordered the suspect to drop his gun. The suspect turned his weapon towards the second employee who then shot the suspect.

Story: An Augusta Georgia Judge shot and killed one of at least two armed intruders that had broken into his home. The only item missing from the residence was a notebook computer. No weapon was found on the slain suspect but as the judge said You’re protecting yourself, You don’t have time to say, ‘Sir, are you here just to steal something or are you here to shoot me?’”

Legal
Story- An automated pepper spraying device has been announced by the makers of the bed bunker (A concealed safe). The device is interesting, however before employing such a device I would have to take a look at booby trap laws and pepper spray laws. In fact I would recommend seeking advice from an attorney due to the complexities of the laws that this device may be affected by.

Self Defense
Story- In Vinton County Ohio two men dressed in camo while carrying a rifle and a shotgun entered and attempted to rob a store. The store owner retrieved a handgun from under the counter and fired four rounds into the floor at the suspects feet. The suspects then fled the scene. A customer in the store then took possession of the owner’s firearm and fired at the fleeing suspects while the owner’s husband also fired at them with a handgun he carried on his person. For the record this isn’t the first time someone has tried to rob the store.

Story- In Bryan Texas a store clerk shot at and hit one of three robbers. The robbers entered the store demanded cash, got shot at and then fled the scene with one suspect crawling away. The suspects did leave with some cash.

Political
News- San Francisco will soon have it’s only gun store reopen before the end of the year, if a local neighbor hood group doesn’t get it’s way.

Hunting
Story- Someone somewhere thinks it would be a good idea to ban lead hunting ammunition, nevermind that it would drive the price of ammo through the roof.
